YOD Gallery, Osaka
YOD Gallery is delighted to present a five-artist show of Hebime, Hidehito Matsubara, Stitch Dog, Toshiyuki Shibakawa, and Madara Manji for VOLTA 14.
These emerging talents deal with the matters of “transformation” through their inimitable use of materials. A sense of illusion will be created at audiences’ first glance due to the blurry boundaries of different materials in their works. Hebime strongly carves the surface consisting of many layers of acrylic paints using a chisel to merge stereoscopic feeling with a sense of confusion. Matsubara madly cuts, paints and tessellates tiny pieces of paper on panel to create an ambiguous expression. Stitch Dog reproduces digital devices and electronic circuit boards through her distinctly skill of embroidery. Toshiyuki Shibakawa, through his idea of gazing at the world from “the perspective of 2000 years in the future”, tons of contemporary “fossil” are created. Madara Manji attempts to express the concept of Antinomy through heating non-ferrous metals to high temperatures so as to form delicate and highly intricate patterns.
