Joao Castilho and Pedro Motta

Joao Castilho and Pedro Motta are young artists from the same generation, whose works establish a close dialogue.

In Tempero (Spice) (2009) by Joao Castilho, photographs show the result of an operation: an intervention with seasoning – pepper and saffron – over a desert of salt in Bolivia. The displacement generates a resemblance, a mortise.

In Paisagem Suspensa (Suspencion Landscape) (2010/2011) by Pedro Motta, the purpose of this project is to put into discussion the relationship of sculpture (man) with a natural space.

In Landmarks (2010) by João Castilho and Pedro Motta again an action precedes photography. To build stone towers or paint them with lime means to build landmarks in the landscape. An annotated, indicated landscape brings back issues that have permeated the works by the two artists in recent years.
