Jennifer Marman & Daniel Borins
presented by Georgia Scherman Projects
Born in Toronto, Canada
The collaborative Toronto-based duo Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins have worked in the fields of sculpture, mixed media, installation and electronic art since 2000. The artists deliberately set up tensions between seemingly opposing discourses of mass culture to intrigue and delight spectators. As Josée Drouin-Brisebois, Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada so succinctly summarizes: "The artists mine contested arenas of art history, politics and pop culture to create complex, humorous and at times provocative works that question, among other things, how we read and interpret symbols in contemporary society." Their most recent exhibitions venues include The National Gallery of Canada, 2007, 2008/09; the Art Gallery of York University, 2009; and forthcoming, Beyond/In Western New York at the Albright Knox, 2010; Art Gallery of Hamilton, 2011.
