Gideon Rubin

Born 1973, Israel

Rubin is mainly known for the emotional Impact of his paintings; Images bleached by the passage of time as though fading from memory. Rubin’s figures float in a pale, indistinct atmosphere, backs turned as though walking away, faces lacking identifiable features that could rescue the individual from the decay of memory and history. The sources of his paintings are old toys, early 20th century photographs of dolls and children, World War II-era magazines, and bleached yellow newspapers. Rubin's work has been exhibited world wide and is receiving increasing interest from both public and private international collections. Rubin’s next solo exhibition will open at Alon Segev gallery on September 2008.
