The artwork of Carolina Silva comes from a particular investigation of the childhood and those moments between the real and the fictitious; being poetic and subtle to represent dark histories, with a happy or tragic ending.
The artist tries with different materials, going from the oil and the watercolour to the fabric and the rice paper.
After obtaining the Fulbright scholarship to do the MFA program (Masters of Fine Arts) in San Francisco Art Institute in 2004, she has participated in the artist research program for 2005-06 offered by CCA Kitakyushu in Japan. The Japanese influence is evident in her new works, such as the installation Nothing darker, 2006, conformed by a Japanese garden made of wood rising above as black ink lagoon, playing with a fable about a pink rabbit, a white paper boat and non-visible squid.
Her latest exhibitions are: Face against the wall! (Next Gallery NY, 2002) Avid Gum (Fish Tank Gallery NY, 2002) We the losers (Travesía Cuatro, 2004), Unfairy (MFA Exhibition, Fort Mason San Francisco, 2005), and the current exhibition Nothing Darker in Travesía Cuatro.
