Lives and works in Guadalajara, Mexico
Despite the central role Mexico City plays, in the last decade Guadalajara, along with Tijuana and Monterrey, has proven to be one of the cities fundamental in the artistic development of this Latin American country. Lebrija’s work reveals the structures of power and authority concealed in the everyday – through very different strategies and using diverse media.
As one can gather, humour, achieved through absurd associations or situations, is a notable element in many of his pieces.
On May of 2008 will have a solo show in TRAVESIA CUATRO in Madrid. He has also participated this year in the group show Viva México! at the Zacheta National Gallery in Warsaw, at the IKON Gallery in Birmingham. In 2006 his work was exhibited in the Museo Carrillo Gil in Mexico City and in 2005 in the MNCARS Reina Sofia in Madrid and participated in the InSite project in San Diego.
Gonzalo Lebrija is co-founder of OPA Office of Art Projects, a non profit art space in Guadalajara, Mexico.
