Damian Le Bas

Born 1963 in Great Britain, Damian Le Bas studied art at West Sussex College of Art and Design and Royal College of Art in London. He currently lives and works in Worthing.

Damian Le Bas produces modified maps and their legends. In his art, landscapes and city plans become painted and pasted over, and excessively marked. His works often show the faces of Gypsies appearing as if scales on a landscape―or he draws structures on maps, depicting the hidden network of the Roma people. He describes himself as free, tied to no single location, without roots, and at home everywhere. He coined the saying: “How boring the world would be without Gypsies!”
