Born 1965 in Great Britain. Delaine Le Bas studied art at the West Sussex College of Art and Design and the St. Martins School of Art in London. She lives and works Worthing, where she grew up.
Delaine Le Bas draws, sews, makes small dollsp, and creates assemblages as well as large-scale installations. She sees her work as positioned between folklore and contemporary art. Biographical references and the distinctive cynicism of (British) society are woven into the glittering surfaces of her (handmade) artworks. While her installations create worlds suggestive of shimmering dreams born of a little girl’s mind, they also enchant and reveal cynical commentaries. By critically reworking popular motifs and icons (the British flag, assorted Disney characters, and other images), she creates attempted shifts of meaning and defies well-worn stereotypes at the same time.
